MobileMe Sucks

I’ve had my problems with the .Mac service over the years. I’ve had my account since it was a free service called iTools. But I’ve had major synchronization issues, general performance issues, and data-loss issues throughout my years with this service. But I kept hope alive that they would fix the service and it would deliver on the promise.

When I first saw a demonstration for the MobileMe service I thought my patience would be rewarded. Unfortunately it has been one of the worst Apple experiences I’ve ever had. For someone who buys Apple products and services specifically for the experience, it’s a shame that this service was rolled out the way it was.

I think they’ll fix the major issues and bring the service up to par with what we had with .Mac before the MobileMe change over. But if my experience with .Mac is any indication, there is no reason to believe that Apple will ever truly fix the synchronization and performance issues that have been there all along.

I’m using Gmail for email, Google Calendar with CalDAV, Dropbox in place of iDisk, and Flickr in place of the .Mac (MobileMe) gallery. I’m disappointed because I have to use all of these different services instead of a one-stop-shop kind of service. But that’s not enough reason to keep me hanging on to a subpar service any longer.
