The Rise & Fall of The Nintendo Wii
→
But the shallow, short-lived novelty of the few good Wii games is the truly fatal flaw. As this article states, it was a fad — and it ages as poorly as one.
The easiest piece of hardware to remove from my entertainment center when I wanted to simplify was my Wii. My plan is to trade it in at a game shop for credit toward new Xbox gear. Looks like I better do it quickly before there’s a...

One Year Ago Today...
I let you know about the ominous signs. You were all so supportive. I was laid off. Then reality set in. And I finally figured out what was wrong.
The next 7 months would be some of the most difficult times I’ve endured. The economy was in the toilet, the job market was terrible, my marriage was stressed to the limits, and money was quickly evaporating. I made poor choices during that time...
When Hollywood Doesn't Understand What I Do
The Office season 5 episode 8:
Jim: “But I thought you were good at Flash.”
Pam: “I was! But then they switched to Acrobat right when I was learning Quark.”

Daring Fireball: Pound the Quality →
Let’s say that when the dust starts to settle in this market, Android winds up with far fewer total apps than iPhone OS, but they’re of generally higher quality. That would make Android the Mac to the iPhone’s Windows. I would switch to that platform.
I agree with this sentiment 100%. However, if the Twitter apps for Android or the Palm Pre are any indication, the iPhone applications are as...

Hulu to Charge Users in 2010 →
Bad move, Hulu. I currently get all of the major networks and many of the smaller networks over-the-air in HD for free. I can watch The Office, 30 Rock, or The Simpsons without shelling out one dime. Why would I pay for this service? Watching TV shows while sitting in front of my computer and not from the comfort of my couch on my big-screen TV is not what I would consider a convenience.
This is...

An Epidemic of Fear: How Panicked Parents Skipping... →
I started reading this very long article and thought it was interesting. Interesting in that I never even considered not vaccinating my child against preventable diseases. The thought that went through my mind when we got his vaccinations went something like this: “Maybe this has caused autism in some kids, maybe it hasn’t, I don’t know. But I know no one has died of the mumps...

Droid Does Tell Little Fibs
Dear Verizon,
If you’re going to run an ad to talk about what the iDon’t doesn’t, you should make sure that your case is air tight. Widgets have run on the iPhone since the very first iPhone launched back in 2007. Maybe you define Widgets differently and if so, I apologize. But if that’s the case, do we need to talk about available applications for your platform? Because...

The most important night of my life happened to me at the tender age of 17. And even though I was young and immature I understood the significance of what had happened, in spite of my age. After all, love at first sight is a phenomenon experienced by a lucky few. Only one other memory, the birth of my son, is so vividly clear in every detail.
It was Friday and I was in great spirits the whole...

New iPhone App Piracy Statistics Reveal "Try... →
This issue is always looked at by the content owners as lost sales and revenue. The thought is that if people didn’t steal their software (or music or movie or whatever) then they would sell so many more copies and make so much more money. But they always forget one very important thing. People are cheap. And if these people didn’t steal it, they probably wouldn’t buy it either....
Spammers, Evildoers, and Opportunists →
“If you’re tricking people into visiting your site, those visits are going to be bad experiences.”
This is my biggest issue with the SEO industry. You do everyone an injustice by “gaming the system” to get your irrelevant links bubbled up to the top of a search that, for the most part, shouldn’t include your site. The unintentional goal of most SEO experts is to...

Microsoft's "Pink" phones in danger of collapse? →
When I read this, it reminds me of stories I used to read about the way Microsoft used to mock IBM for being too big for its own good. Success comes at a price. Promotions need to be given, new levels of middle management are created, and in the end the company struggles under the weight of a bureaucracy of it’s own design.
Obviously, this is just a rumor and may not be true. But there is...
This is Why You Lost Me, GOP →
Here is the face of the new Republican. White, flushed, angry. His politics aren’t about being fiscally responsible and making sure the federal government stays small and states have the right to run their state how they see fit. No, this is the new Republican. This man wants me to live in fear and follow him regardless of thought. Propaganda and lies are the new platform of the GOP.

Good old Verizon
mrgan:

But Verizon knows what it wants, and it it definitely doesn’t want to be in the situation AT&T is in today with iPhone owners: reduced to a dumb pipe with very little device branding, no lock-in, no customer loyalty, little to no revenue share from phone-based content sales, and only negative press resulting from the relationship.
I agree with Marco’s assessment of what we...

Laptop Battery Life
For the past week I’ve been keeping my MacBook Pro unplugged until the battery is drained and then plugging it in to charge the battery before unplugging it again. This is in contrast to the way I used to do it which was to just leave the laptop plugged in all the time when I was at my desk.
My battery life sucked. I would dim the screen, turn off all radios and just use one app at a time...

“The perfect candidate will be a talented writer who’s not about to play favorites — and, of course, someone who has a state medical marijuana ID (or the ability and need to obtain one). Compensation will be meager — and no, we can’t expense your purchases, although that would be pretty cool.”
